We Are Not Our Own

An impromptu picnic at the park, just us two.  But a special benefit with a live band, a crowd, and many teenagers playing near the lake and our intended place to eat told us that when we give our lives to Christ, we don’t belong to ourselves.

“There is no such thing as a private life, or a place to hide in this world, for a man or woman who is intimately aware of and shares in the sufferings of Jesus Christ.” Oswald Chambers said in November 1, My Utmost for His Highest. (https://utmost.org/you-are-not-your-own/).

I read that marriage is a covenant with the Lord and in turn actually blesses their families and community around them in Tim Keller’s “The Meaning of Marriage.”  Some quotes from the book are here: https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/16321346-the-meaning-of-marriage-facing-the-complexities-of-commitment-with-the.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV).

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 (NIV).
