“Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: and knew here not till she had brought forth her firstborn Son: and he called His name JESUS.” Matthew 1:24-25. (A teaching I heard about the immediacy of Joseph, being roused from sleep, no less.)
David is speaking about a bear or lion that took one of his sheep, “And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him,” 1 Samuel 17:35.
“And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines,” 2 Samuel 3:14.
Jephthah said, “whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the LORD’s, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.” vs. 31 (NIV). “He devastated twenty towns from Aroer to the vicinity of Minnith, as far as Abel Keramim. Thus Israel subdued Ammon.” vs. 33 (NIV).
“And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.” vs 35.
