The Scarf

“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver,” says Proverbs 25:11.  She told me about Martha loaning her the scarf on their way to a group dinner.  How loved she felt, how moved.  Like “apples of gold” was her gift received.
Years later, I received this kindness in the shape of exotic handcreme.  Before service, Martha pulled out the crimped foil tube that her daughter had given her, only sold in Europe.  A covering for dry, raw winter hands.
